Green Expo

Brandi and I went to the Bluegrass Green Expo today, which highlighted ways to be more “green”. It was interesting, but I was hoping for more things I could do today - like composting (which they did demonstrate). However, most things were ways to be green if building a new home. Well, we’re not looking to do that any time soon. It was interesting to see the different ideas, even if we couldn’t implement them right away.

Afterward we headed over to Starbucks for some hot chocolate. It wasn’t necessarily cold out, but it was nice to drink. While we were sitting outside I decided to snap a few shots of the drink and Brandi. Nothing spectacular, but I liked the shots nonetheless.

Raven Run

Brandi and I went to Raven Run last weekend and I took along my handy-dandy camera. Finally got around to getting some of the photos off the camera and up on the site. Here is the link to the album: http://jeremyking.com/photos/album/Raven_Run_October_2008/

ACL

Well, we are back from our trip to Austin, TX and the Austin City Limits Festival - a 5 day music vacation for us. We had a blast! The people of Austin are some of the friendliest people I’ve met. Our trip was from Thursday till Tuesday. Thursday was mostly to get accustomed to our surroundings and check out the bar scene, which is phenomenal! 6th street has a ton of bars, all with live music. We checked out a few bands on Thursday and all were pretty good. We listened to a couple rock bands and a bluegrass band.

Is this normal?

We went to the Kentucky Theater last night to see Steve Earle and Allison Moorer. I must say, wow! She opened the show for her husband (yes they’re married!) and her voice was freakin amazing. She belted out tunes that just made you really feel the music. Then Steve took the stage. Now, I’ve heard some of his music before, but I was really amazed with the breadth of his songs. He was political, he was funny, he was deep. I wasn’t expecting much out of the show beforehand, but walked away a big fan of both Steve and Allison. We are actually thinking of seeing them in Hamilton, OH if it works out.

Despite all the great music going on around me, all I could think of was “I wonder if they’d let me volunteer as a photographer?” I kept looking around at the different angles I could use, the lighting, what camera settings I’d need to use, and on and on. I am seeing an amazing show and all I could think of is how I would use my camera in the surroundings I was provided. Is this normal?

Leo - January 2001-May 9, 2008

LeoAfter a long bout with cancer (I should say “cancers” since he had multiple forms), Leopold “Leo” King was put to rest on May 9th. I have also added a couple pictures of Leo too if you’d like to see them. (Read the article)

RIP Simon

The lovable, furry greeter at Pennyroyal Small and Exotic Animal Hospital passed away January 9, 2008. SimonMuch more than an office cat, Simon never met a fellow pet he did not like. As much as he liked being pet, I think he actually enjoyed interacting with other pets more.

When I took Sadie, my first ferret, to Pennyroyal, Simon was one of the first to greet us. He would just flop down in front of us and allow Sadie to snuggle through his long fluffy hair. When not greeting customers, Simon could usually be found somewhere around the check-out counter. There was one instance when I was checking out and there was Simon sitting on the counter. My receipt was printing out and all of a sudden there was a loud scream/meow. Simon’s fluffy hair was getting pulled into the printer.

He had been sick for a while and hadn’t felt much like greeting. This made visiting the vet’s office a little less enjoyable. Simon was truly one of a kind. A sweet, handsome and thoughtful friend.

There are many other great stories, these are just two of my favorites. You will truly be missed Simon. Love all your friends from Pennyroyal.

Las Vegas / Grand Canyon pictures

The pictures of our trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon have been up for a while now (http://jeremyking.com/photos/). There are 63 in all and because of the large number of files I looked into the scripts I am using for the gallery.

Keeneland Fall Meet

Keeneland’s fall meet started Friday October 6th and of course we took advantage of the nice day to watch the races. Luckily for us our friend Angie was having a company outiing and offered us free grandstand tickets, free food, free beer, free program and free binoculars (lot-o-free stuff). So of course we could not pass this up. (You can see pics from the day by going to the Photos section of my site.) (Read the article)

Golf Scramble

I participated in a golf scramble this past Saturday in Frankfort. Although I don’t think we did as well as we had expected (or hoped) we had a blast! (Read the article)
