Facebook

Facebook. You know, the social networking site that apparently everyone is a member of - well, everyone but me. I refused. I did not want to conform. I have a site, why do I need to update others on a free site, when I have this site that I’ve developed myself.

Brandi held out too. Until about a month ago. She signed up and added a few friends and before I knew it she was fully involved. Now she has lots of “friends”. But I still didn’t get it. Oh, I got the purpose of Facebook, I just didn’t understand why so many people flocked to it. I still believed in my own site. Do many know about it? No, probably not. But if someone is really interested in me, they’d find me here.

Two nights ago Brandi was sitting on the couch with her laptop tapping away. She started asking me about people I knew from high school. How did she know these names? I lean over and she’s on Facebook. You see, the downside to having a wife who knows everything about you is they can do things for you. Brandi had set up a Facebook account, sent out friend request, etc. A few have accepted and I’m sure are awaiting for me to respond - I haven’t yet. I guess I will have to at some point. I can’t believe it, I’m being forced into Facebook. That last holdout no more. Sigh. It couldn’t last forever, I suppose.

MGMT - ACL Festival 2008

I thought this was extremely cool, although Brandi just thought it was ho-hum. Anywho, I was on the ACL Festival site to see the 2009 lineup. I found a link for for these photos you could zoom in and check out the crowd. The first photo was for MGMT (a fabulous band by the way). One of the reasons we went to ACL was to see MGMT, so I remembered where we were - generally. So I decided to look through the crowd to see if I could find us in the crowd - a crowd of thousands!

Here is the default photo when you first go to the site. I added a red arrow where we are positioned - way the hell in the back!
Crowd for MGMT

As you start to zoom in through the crowd, you’ll get closer to us. I’ve pointed out the beer stand and where we are located. Beer stand is for reference so you can try this yourself.

Now, zoom in a little further. You’re starting to get closer. Again, see the beer stand?
Crowd for MGMT

Holy crap! Do you see us! In that see of people I as able to find Brandi and myself. How cool is that?!

And so you don’t think I’m a master of Photoshop, you can check it out for yourself. Remember the beer stand for reference! http://www.aclfestival.com/takeover/gal_gigapan.asp

New photos!

RC

Whew! It has been a long time since I’ve posted anything. I’ve actually had pictures ready to be loaded for a while now and just been too busy (read: lazy) to put them up. Well, they’re up now. I uploaded new pictures of Elka (here) and pictures of two hikes we went on - the UK Arboretum and the Daniel Boone National Forest (here). And since I don’t want RC to feel left out, I’ve included another pic of her here.

Speaking of Elka, man she has grown fast! We’ve only had her for three weeks and she has gained close to 10 pounds. She is much, much bigger too. The funniest thing is we have been expecting her ears to perk up and stand on their own. They have been floppy from the day we got her. Well, we went to bed Friday night and when we woke up Saturday morning her ears were about 90% up! Just overnight! Well, it is now Sunday and they are up all the way. Amazing how quickly things change. We enrolled her in puppy classes too. Well, she was very vocal the first day. She played well with others, but she showed the instructor how she can grow too. She has been following commands pretty well, but we’ll see how day 2 goes this week.

New puppy

Brandi and I got a new puppy today, sort of a Christmas present to ourselves. We have been talking about getting a white German Shepherd and we found one here in town. We haven’t selected a name yet, but we want to select something that fits her personality. I snapped a couple pics when we got home, just as she decided it was time to take a nap.

Update: We have decided on calling her Elka, which is German for “noble”.

Green Expo

Brandi and I went to the Bluegrass Green Expo today, which highlighted ways to be more “green”. It was interesting, but I was hoping for more things I could do today - like composting (which they did demonstrate). However, most things were ways to be green if building a new home. Well, we’re not looking to do that any time soon. It was interesting to see the different ideas, even if we couldn’t implement them right away.

Afterward we headed over to Starbucks for some hot chocolate. It wasn’t necessarily cold out, but it was nice to drink. While we were sitting outside I decided to snap a few shots of the drink and Brandi. Nothing spectacular, but I liked the shots nonetheless.

Raven Run

Brandi and I went to Raven Run last weekend and I took along my handy-dandy camera. Finally got around to getting some of the photos off the camera and up on the site. Here is the link to the album: http://jeremyking.com/photos/album/Raven_Run_October_2008/

ACL

Well, we are back from our trip to Austin, TX and the Austin City Limits Festival - a 5 day music vacation for us. We had a blast! The people of Austin are some of the friendliest people I’ve met. Our trip was from Thursday till Tuesday. Thursday was mostly to get accustomed to our surroundings and check out the bar scene, which is phenomenal! 6th street has a ton of bars, all with live music. We checked out a few bands on Thursday and all were pretty good. We listened to a couple rock bands and a bluegrass band.

New album

Morning workout

I added a new photo album - Keeneland warmup. I made it to Keeneland one morning while they were warming up the ponies. I tried my panning technique, and I know it’s not the greatest, but I think I got a couple decent shots out of it.

Is this normal?

We went to the Kentucky Theater last night to see Steve Earle and Allison Moorer. I must say, wow! She opened the show for her husband (yes they’re married!) and her voice was freakin amazing. She belted out tunes that just made you really feel the music. Then Steve took the stage. Now, I’ve heard some of his music before, but I was really amazed with the breadth of his songs. He was political, he was funny, he was deep. I wasn’t expecting much out of the show beforehand, but walked away a big fan of both Steve and Allison. We are actually thinking of seeing them in Hamilton, OH if it works out.

Despite all the great music going on around me, all I could think of was “I wonder if they’d let me volunteer as a photographer?” I kept looking around at the different angles I could use, the lighting, what camera settings I’d need to use, and on and on. I am seeing an amazing show and all I could think of is how I would use my camera in the surroundings I was provided. Is this normal?
